Meet our Downtown

Ghost Hosts

On Halloween night, Downtown Oxford will be visited by several spooky, supernatural Ghost Hosts!  Get ready to meet three friendly characters who are normally resting in peace... six feet under.

Lady Stella

Full Name: Ms. Florence Eugenia Odella Estelle
Born:    07/04/1776 – Savannah, Georgia

Died:    10/31/1844 – Oxford, Alabama

Cause of death:
Falling signpost clock after entanglement with Lucius the Gator chasing a black cat in circles on Halloween.

Where can I meet Lady Stella?
Lady Stella will regale us with her stories of the Savannah Lowcountry at the very clock which figures in her infamous demise.  See her at the downtown clock on the corner of Main and Choccolocco Streets from 6:00 pm to 6:15pm and from 7:00 pm to 7:15 pm.

About Lady Stella:
Who do we turn to when we want the latest gossip of the living and deceased? Who do we turn to for the best advice on gator wrangling and spectral fashion?  Savannah transplant, gator mama, and a belle of the utmost nobility.....Lady Florence Eugenia Odella Estelle; but Lady Stella to all her closest ghouls.

Duke Skellington

Full Name: Swinging Duke Skellington III
Born:    05/01/1901 – New Orleans, Louisiana

Died:    10/31/1925 – Oxford, Alabama

Cause of death:

Looking for inspiration for an arrangement of The Blue Danube, tried playing the saxophone underwater.

Where can I meet Duke Skellington?
Duke is famous for being a specter of musical rather than oratorial talents.  Spookily silent with words, expect for Duke to instead perform his Halloween hits on his haunted saxophone.  Duke will perform live (well as much as a ghost can be "live") from the balcony on Main Street from 6:15 pm to 6:30 pm and from 7:15 pm to 7:30 pm.

About Duke Skellington:

Duke’s got the swingin’ sounds that will have the gravestones dancing all evening. Even the undead can’t resist the sweet music from this saxophone as Duke Skellington serenades from across the River Styx.

Belladonna Riddle

Full Name: Unknown... gravestone too worn down to tell
Born:    10/31/1652 – Salem, Massachusetts Colony

Died:    10/31/1751 – Oxford, Alabama

Cause of death:

While attempting to summon 100K butterflies to float from the sky in a warm-hearted attempt to delight the early settlers in Oxford, Belladonna accidently summoned 100K butter dishes because of horrible Latin translation.

Where can I meet Belladonna?
You can find this wacky witch at the downtown clock on Choccolocco Street.  Just beware if you feel a creepy crawly on your shoulder... it could be her friendly giant spider, Douglas!  See Belladonna's spellbinding self from 6:30 pm to 6:45 pm and from 7:30 pm to 7:45 pm.

About Belladonna Riddle:
She escaped Salem; but Belladonna Riddle couldn’t escape her particular brand of witchy trouble. Wonky spells, faulty predictions, and a curious talent for reading elbows instead of palms led this witch through the veil and into our celebration.
